In this paper we consider that an equipment life is subjected to a gen
eral distribution and its condition-monitor cycle time is T. No sooner
is the failure monitored than the equipment is repaired. After being
repaired, the equipment does not function as a new, but as one which h
as been used for a period of time. Let Y indicate such a period of tim
e, standing as a random variable. Hence, assuming the same repair cond
itions at each repair, we get a Y distribution after each repair. Usin
g the following method, E(X) = E(y)(E(x)(X \ Y)), we can obtain a mean
condition-monitor cycle time and mean repair cost between two adjacen
t maintenance intervals. Finally, considering an objective function wi
th bound condition, and using Lagrange's method of multipliers, we obt
ain an optimum condition-monitor cycle time T-, where the minimum tot
al repairing cost is achieved.
