STRENGTH EVALUATION OF CERAMICS USING MIN IATURE SPECIMENS

In order to study the strength evaluation method using miniature ceram ic specimens, flexural fixtures for these miniature specimens were dev eloped and mechanical strength of alumina ceramics whose size varied f rom 0.2(thickness) x 2(width) x 7(length)mm to 3 x 4 x 40mm was measur ed using these fixtures. The average strength of small specimens incre ased with decreasing specimen size, The dependence of strength on size was approximated using a Weibull size scaling with effective area.
