Abstract
A synthesis of 4-(3-perylenyl)butanoic acid is described; a phosphatid ylcholine and a sphingomyelin with the labeled acid residue are also s ynthesized. The phospholipid fluorescent probes have a good quantum yi eld and a high fluorescence anisotropy value in lipid bilayer; they ar e proposed as useful tools in studies of membrane systems.
