Abstract
An algorithm is developed to obtain the contour plot of principal scal ar, vector and tenser valued fields in areas of engineering such as el evations of a terrain, deflections or stresses varying within the doma in. This can be applied to scalar field problems in meteorology as wel l. An isoparametric style of interpolation is used to obtain such cont ours in two as well as in three dimensions. Computer programs have bee n developed to plot the contours, the surfaces as well as the deformed shapes and viewed from any point in any direction.
