Abstract
The total synthesis of the title compounds in optically active form fr om geraniol as the starting material is described. The physical and sp ectral properties of the synthetic amide are identical with those of t he natural compound acacialactam, this fact confirming that the struct ure proposed for the latter compound is not correct. The configuration of the single stereogenic carbon atom in the natural amide is shown t o be S.
