Abstract
This paper presents the theoretical background and analytical methods developed for B.C. Hydro's On-line Transient Stability Assessment (TSA ) module. It concentrates on the preprocessing modeling, stability ana lysis/margin calculation and post processing techniques. The architect ure, hardware and implementation are presented in a companion paper.
