Tl. Campbell et al., THE REYNOLDS ADOLESCENT DEPRESSION SCALE - AN EXPLORATORY FACTOR-ANALYTIC STUDY, European review of applied psychology, 44(4), 1994, pp. 319-324
The intent of the present study was to examine the factorial structure
of the translated version of the Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale
(RADS, REYNOLDS, 1987) for 207 (83 males, 124 females) nonclinical Fr
ench-speaking adolescents. Results from a common factor analysis that
tested for a range of previously reported factorial solutions, determi
ned a 5-factor structure to most adequately fit the data. These dimens
ions, labelled Somatic, Anhedonia, Cognitive, Negative View of Self, a
nd Loneliness, were consistent with domains typically identified in th
e depression literature. Findings are expected to be of substantial in
terest to clinicians, psychometricians, and researchers whose concerns
focus on the assessment of adolescent depression.
