Nb. Mikheev et al., RADIOCHEMICAL, ASPECTS OF ENVIRONMENTALLY PROTECTIVE PRECIPITATION OFCS AND I AEROSOLS FROM NPP ACCIDENTS, Radiochemistry, 36(4), 1994, pp. 378-383
Possible forms of Cs and I radioaerosols from a NPP accident and curre
nt radioaerosol protective systems used in various countries are discu
ssed. A new concept of environmental protection from Cs and I radioaer
osols from a NPP accident is proposed. It involves precipitation and u
ses unconventional approaches based nor on filtration of gaseous strea
ms but on the extraction from them of radioaerosols and radioiodine by
forming artificially generated inactive hydrophilic aerosols of mixed
micelles and cocrystallization with them of ionic I species. The gene
rality of the proposed concept enables it to be used for protection fr
om radioaerosols in various reactors. The protection system may be ind
ependent or may supplement already existing protection devices.
