Abstract
A convenient regiospecific preparation of unsymmetrical alpha-bromoket ones, commencing from Meldrum's acid, has been developed. This procedu re allows for preparation of alpha-bromoketones which are unobtainable in a pure state by other bromination methods and is compatable with i ntroduction of a bromine atom in the presence of unsaturation using lo w-cost starting materials.
