Abstract
Sporadic non-A, non-B hepatitis is the most common indication for live r transplantation in patients presenting with fulminant and subacute l iver failure. This study used serological, histological, and molecular biological techniques to examine specimens from 23 consecutive patien ts transplanted for sporadic non-A, non-B hepatitis. No evidence was f ound of hepatitis C virus, hepatitis E virus, or 'cryptic' hepatitis B virus infection.
