Abstract
A new tridentate Schiff base has been prepared by the reaction of glyc ine with ortho-hydroxybenzaldehyde. Mixed-ligand complexes having the general formulae [M(SB)(L) (3)], where M = Co(II) or Ni(II), SB = Schi ff base, L = quinoline, isoquinoline, 2-picoline, 4-picoline and pyrid ine ware prepared and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses , conductivity, TLC, magnetic measurements, i.r., electronic and H-1 n .m.r spectra. All the complexes of Co(II) were found to have an octahe dral structure. Analysis of the electronic spectral data showed that t he Ni(II) complexes have a tetragonally distorted octahedral structure .
