The titration curves of respiration rates throughout inbibition and ge
rmination of isolated wheat embryos (Triticum durum, cv. Appulo) were
determined. From these curves the appropriate salicylhydroxamic acid (
SHAM) concentrations needed to inhibit the cyanide-resistant alternati
ve pathway, without any side effects were estimated for each stage: 5
mmol.l-1 for 30 min, 10 mmol.l-1 for 3, 6, 12 and 48 h and 15 mmol.l-1
for 24 h.
