Measurements via Laser-Doppler-Anemometry (LDA) were performed with th
e electrorheological fluid P 1723 (laboratory sample supplied by Rober
t Bosch GmbH, Stuttgart) inside a flat channel with electrically condu
cting walls. The results show i) marked quantitative differences to da
ta obtained viscometrically and ii) large velocity fluctuations in the
bulk regions of the channel. Formation of - possibly transient - stru
ctures would be consistent with this result.
