The thermal properties-thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and s
pecific heat capacity, of N-vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP)-methyl methacrylat
e (MMA) copolymer solutions in benzene have been studied in the temper
ature range 20-70-degrees-C. The measurements have been carried out us
ing the hot-wire (and strip) technique. The NVP-MMA copolymer samples
of various molar ratios are prepared in absence and in presence of ZnC
l2 as modifier during the copolymerization process. The results show t
hat the values of the thermal properties depend on the content of NVP
monomeric units in the polymeric chains, the presence of ZnCl2 during
the copolymerization of the two monomers, and the temperature. The mec
hanism of heat transfer is discussed. The role of convection and radia
tion have been taken into consideration.
