Abstract
Feature-based process planning has been regarded as a key for the inte gration of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturin g (CAM). Features are the information carriers between design and manu facturing. In this study, manufacturing features are extracted by a gr aphical comparison of a finished part with a blank. The feature recogn ition is performed using programs written in C and CLIPS expert system . Process plans are generated based on the recognized feature informat ion and production knowledge. The developed system is integrated with the I-DEAS software (a MCAE product of SDRC).
