SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF HETEROBIMETALLIC COMPLEXES OF DITHIOCARBAZATE

Reaction of potassium dithiocarbazate with NiCl(2)6H(2)O in 80% DMSO f orms a soluble complex K-2[Ni(dtcz)(4)] (where dtcz = dithiocarbazate) which reacts with aqueous ZnCl2, Cd(NO3)(2) or HgCl2 and yield hetero bimetallic non-electrolyte complexes Zn[Ni(dtcz)(4)] (1), Cd[Ni(dtcz)( 4)] (2) and Hg[Ni(dtcz)(4)] (3). The IR and H-1 NMR spectra of complex (1) suggest N,S bonding whilst complex (3) is apparently S,S bonded a nd the complex (2) exhibits both N,S and S,S bonding of the dithiocarb azate ligands. Complex (1) realizes a square planar geometry, whilst c omplex (2) and (3) appear to exhibit square planar - octahedral equili bria in the solid state.
