Abstract
Sequencing and computer analysis of a 47,961-bp region of smallpox vir us (SPV) genome flanked by open reading frames (ORFs) D1R and A33L rev ealed forty six potential ORFs. Smallpox virus proteins were compared with analogous proteins of vaccinia virus Copenhagen strain. The funct ions of the analyzed viral proteins are discussed.
