Mm. Nielsen et al., SUBSTITUTIONAL ADSORPTION OF LI ON AL - THE STRUCTURE OF THE AL(111)-(ROOT-3X-ROOT-30-DEGREES)-LI PHASE, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 54(24), 1996, pp. 17902-17909
The atomic geometry of the Al(111)-(root 3 x root 3)R30 degrees phase
formed by adsorption of one-third monolayer Li on Al(111) at room temp
erature has been determined by analysis of extensive low-energy electr
on-diffraction measurements. The structure is found to be a binary sur
face alloy, in which Li atoms occupy sixfold coordinate substitutional
sites formed by displacing every third Al atom in the first layer of
the substrate, similar to the structures found previously for the corr
esponding (root 3 x root 3 )R30 degrees phases formed by adsorption of
Na, K, and Rb.
