It is shown that the hydrothermal and geochemical situation in the Ala
zan' valley is favorable for the formation of Slitozems (Compact soils
). Slitozem with all its typical features was formed from structured m
aterial of automorphic soil in less than 3,000 years in a small depres
sion of the rock train zone of spurs of the Tsiv-Gomborskiy range. In
terms of the generally accepted characteristics of organic matter, the
Compact soils of Transcaucasus are similar to the Chernozems of tempe
rate latitudes. Their humus corresponds to present-day geochemical and
climatic features of the region.
