A 28-year-old Japanese woman had the first appearance of uveitis due t
o sarcoidosis in the eighth week of gestation and remission in the lat
er stage of pregnancy. After delivery a relapse of uveitis occurred; h
owever the pulmonary lesion of sarcoidosis was always stationary durin
g and after pregnancy. Although remission during pregnancy and relapse
after delivery have been reported for pulmonary lesions of sarcoidosi
s, such a clinical course of sarcoid uveitis has not been described. S
ince uveitis almost never has a spontaneous remission and as an extrap
ulmonar sarcoid lesion is an exacerbating factor, and since the pulmon
ary lesion was stable during pregnancy and after delivery, the remissi
on of uveitis during pregnancy and its relapse after delivery may have
been due to changes of immune complexes located in the uveal tract an
d to humoral constituents; although spontaneous resolution of the dise
ase cannot be ruled out.
