Abstract
The reactive and reparative capacity of injured tissue when treated wi th either Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields (PEMFs) or with immunodulator drugs (Prostaglandin E2 and Thymopentin) was evaluated. A morphologica l and quantitative evaluation was made of the interactions and the int erferences on the structural stages of tissue repair processes. When P EMFs were used the time required for new tissue to completely cover th e wound was 26 days after surgery, instead of 30 days for control cond itions or for treatment with PGE2 or Thymopentin. PEMFs showed acceler ated healing process. Both PGE2 and Thymopentin should be considered, in association with other drugs, in an attempt to strengthen the vario us immunomodulative phases of the reconstitution of injured tissue.
