Specific features of the mechanism of CO oxidation on copper-containin
g catalysts prepared from copper-aluminum alloys are studied by the tr
ansient-response method using mass-spectrometric analysis of the react
ion mixture. Two forms of oxygen, related to the copper component of t
he catalyst, are found to take part in the reaction. Carbon monoxide i
nteracts either from the gas phase or from a very weakly bonded adsorp
tion complex at the surface.
