Abstract
Nonlinear response, bifurcation and stability properties of a non-auto nomous system are analysed with regard to resonance. The behaviour of the system in the vicinity of a certain compound critical point is dis cussed. It is observed that direct application of harmonic balancing i n this case is more reliable than the intrinsic harmonic balancing tec hnique. The analyses are carried out with the aid of a symbolic comput er language, namely MAPLE.
