Abstract
A recent geotechnical feasibility study confirmed that the Bukit Timah granite of Singapore is highly salted to the construction of rock cav erns. For cost-estimating purposes, a cavern scheme has been considere d comprising a warehouse and adjacent civil defense shelter. The schem e includes five warehouse caverns with a combined storage capacity of 200,000 m(3) and a defense shelter for 2,000 people. This paper descri bes the scheme and presents a cost estimate and indicative constructio n programme.
