Vv. Sapozhnikov et Ia. Naletova, STUDIES OF BIOHYDROCHEMICAL STRUCTURE OF THE EUPHOTIC LAYER AND PRIMARY PRODUCTION IN THE BERING SEA, Okeanologia, 35(2), 1995, pp. 206-214
Calculations of new production (NP) have been made on hydrochemical ch
aracteristics, recycling production (RP) have been assessed on the rec
ycling of phosphorus and nitrogen. Photosynthesis, coupling with the u
ptake of nutrients and development of minimum of silica acid and maxim
um of oxygen, at the lower chlorophyll max in the pycnocline is discus
sed. In situ determination of production by C-14 and oxygen and vertic
al scanning of chlorophyll ''a'' have permitted to calculate: assimila
tion numbers for all the biohydrochemical areas and to map primary pro
duction (PP) distribution in the Bering Sea. The total value of PP in
the Bering Sea has been assessed and equals 6.4 x 10(8) t C year.
