Mossbauer filtration of Synchrotron Radiation (SR) due to resonant Mos
sbauer scattering at an isotope interface (a plane interface between d
ifferent isotopes of the same chemical element) under conditions of to
tal internal reflection is theoretically investigated. The mentioned s
cheme of Mossbauer filtration of SR allows one to suppress the backgro
und connected with the nonresonant SR scattering because of the absenc
e of reflection at the isotope interface if there is no resonant scatt
ering. It is also shown that an additional decrease of the background
connected with SR reflection at the vacuum-non-Mossbauer isotope inter
face may be achieved if the vacuum-non-Mossbauer isotope interface has
a saw-like profile. Numerical calculations illustrating advantages of
the proposed scheme of SR Mossbauer filtration are carried out for a
Fe-56/Fe-57 isotope interface.
