A series of new organometallic polymers, PdnC60, with varying Pd/C-60
ratios wets prepared and studied using EXAFS spectroscopy. The Pd K-ed
ge EXAFS analysis suggests that the Pd atoms act as bridges between ad
jacent C-60 molecules by coordination to the pi-electrons of their dou
ble bonds. The distance between the Pd atom and the nearest carbon ato
ms Pd-C-1 (2.27(3) Angstrom) is found to be somewhat longer than that
in typical Pd(O)-olefin pi-complexes.
