An approximate solution of the wave equation for the field generated b
y an isolated aperture of large electrical dimensions is derived as an
expansion with respect to the parameter of smallness. A direct relati
onship is established between the range of existence of the isolated e
nergy channel near the aperture and the rate of change of amplitude al
ong the channel, and a quantitative estimate is given for a special ca
se.
