The principles of formation of the nitrogen regime of drained peaty so
ils in a latitudinal direction through soil-climate zones of European
Russia are examined. It is established that the intensity of processes
of mineralization of organic matter, the transformation of nitrogen-b
earing compounds, and the formation of the nitrogen regime in drained
soils with identical botanical composition of the peat and identical d
rainage rate are determined by the latitudinal position of the peat bo
g, the time of its development, and the crops being cultivated.
