Mi. Makarov et al., INFLUENCE OF ACID RAINS ON THE TRANSFORMATION OF ALUMINUM AND IRON COMPOUNDS IN FOREST SOILS, Eurasian soil science, 26(9), 1994, pp. 87-96
Laboratory experiments simulating the five-year impact of acid rains r
evealed specific features of transformation of aluminum and iron compo
unds in Podzolic, Brown Forest Surface-Gley, and Alluvial Humus-Gleiso
lic soils. The general trend is the conversion of less mobile compound
s into more mobile forms (for example, silicates into nonsilicates, cr
ystals into amorphous), which accompanies accumulation of exchangeable
aluminum in the upper horizons of acidic automorphic soils.
