Abstract
Volcanic ash soils of varying age occurring on the islands of the sout hwestern Pacific were studied in terms of ferrallitization development , which was shown to be specific by the mineralogy of newly formed pro ducts (allophane-metahalloisite-oxide clay association) and by the geo chemistry of the process: ferrallitized-ferrallitic products appear at all the stages: their SiO2/Al2O3 ratio is close to 2.
