Two manganese porphyrins, tetrafunctionalized by phosphonic acid ends
[R(meso) = C6H4PO3H2 (4b), C6F4NHC3H6PO3H2 (4d)] have been prepared. T
hese compounds reacted with Zn(II) salts in water or methanol to give
insoluble zinc phosphonates, in which the corresponding porphyrin was
part of the matrix. These hybrid materials behave as supported oxidati
on catalysts, in the epoxidation of cyclooctene with PhIO. Very simila
r catalytic yields were observed between the hybrid solid and its phos
phonic acid precursor.
