In this study, the optical properties of two InF3-based glasses exhibi
ting high thermal stability have been thoroughly investigated. Infrare
d transmission, the compositional dependence of the refractive index a
nd material dispersion studies are discussed. IZBS glass has been opti
mized by systematic compositional substitutions. The resulting high re
sistance to crystallization allowed the preparation of large pieces of
glass, prisms and the feasibility of optical fibers. Of significance,
these grasses have good transmission up to 8 mu m, zero-dispersion at
similar to 1.8 mu m and a relative wavelength independence and small
magnitude of dispersion in the spectral range 1.8-3.4 mu m.
