New cadmium fluorochloride glasses have been prepared by modification
of halogen concentrations and alkali fluoride substitutions in the 17C
dF(2) . 33CdCl(2) . 13BaF(2) . 37NaF glass. As a result, stable glass
formation occurs for a F/Cl ratio ranging from 1.4 to 1.7, and for a s
ubstitution of 6NaF by 4LiF and 2KF. The compositional dependence of s
elected physical properties is reported. Samples of identical composit
ion were made from different combinations of fluorides and chlorides.
This was found to influence glass stability and chemical durability.
