Abstract
Multiphonon relaxation rates are investigated for an Er3+-doped cadmiu m chloro-fluoride glass. They are found to obey the empirical energy-g ap law, and compare favourably with those reported for other halide or oxide glasses. Cd-F vibrations are found to be responsible for the re laxation processes.
