Sk. Saha et al., EMERGENCE OF HIGH-LEVEL FLUOROQUINOLONE-RESISTANT ESCHERICHIA-COLI INBANGLADESH, International journal of antimicrobial agents, 5(2), 1995, pp. 119-121
Fifteen fluoroquinolone-resistant strains of Escherichia coli were iso
lated from different clinical specimens of paediatric patients, 2 year
s after introduction of the drugs into Bangladesh. However, none of th
ese patients had any definite history of treatment with fluoroquinolon
es. MICs of these strains to different antibiotics were determined by
the broth microdilution method recommended by the Working Party of BSA
C. Strains were highly resistant to all drugs except ceftriaxone. Stud
y indicates a high frequency of fluoroquinolone-resistant E. coli stra
ins among the clinical isolates which is possibly related to fluoroqui
nolone introduction.
