Abstract
The first chiral synthesis of (-)-oncinotine 1 in natural form has bee n achieved starting from the protected (S)-N-benzyloxycarbonyl-2-piper idylacetaldehyde 3 based on a new route involving 17-membered ring for mation via iminium cyclization, which establishes the 17R absolute con figuration of natural 1.
