Hybrid organic-inorganic nanocomposites made of metal ore-polymers (zi
rconium and neodymium ore or dysprosium oro species) linked to siloxan
e species [(CH3)Si-O-3/2] exhibit luminescence. At low rare-earth-meta
l (M=Dy, Nd) concentrations, the emission lifetime is mainly governed
by energy-transfer processes between rare-earth-metal cations. At high
er rare-earth-metal concentrations the emission lifetime is controlled
by the interactions between rare-earth-metal cations and by an increa
se of the quenching probability due to the vicinity of some residual h
ydroxy groups. Energy transfer between Nd3+ ions and Rhodamine 6G co-i
ncorporated inside these hybrid coatings is also demonstrated.
