This article offers a critical survey of the ''parity movement'''s pol
itics and moreover of the line of arguments developed by some of its s
upporters. The Author draws the attention to the parity activists' abs
ence of programme and lack of solidarity with women, both in Britain a
nd in France, and also to the peculiar idea they have in France to cam
paign for making the equal number of women and men enforceable by law.
