Abstract
A novel retrieval algorithm for the refractive-index profile of optica l fibers from transverse interferograms is presented. This algorithm a llows a quick and simple index-profile reconstruction even in the pres ence of measurement noise and near the fiber axis. The response to noi se of different retrieval algorithms is discussed and computer simulat ions are presented.
