SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF SOME HETERO(BI-)-METALLIC AND HETERO(TRI-)-METALLIC ISOPROPOXIDES OF MAGNESIUM(II)

Isopropoxometallate derivatives of magnesium of the types, ClMg{Zr-2(O Pri)(9)}, ClMg{M(OPri)(n)} (M=Al, n=4; M=Nb, n=6) Mg{Zr-2(OPri)(9)}(2) , and Mg{M(OPri)(n)}(2) (M=Al, n=4; M=Nb, n=6) have been synthesized b y the reactions of MgCl2, with an appropriate alkoxometallate in the r equired molar ratio. Reactions of ClMg{Zr-2(OPri)(9)} with potassium i sopropoxide, potassium isopropoxoaluminate, or -niobate in benzene yie ld ((PrO)-O-i)Mg{Zr-2(OPri)(9)}, {Al(OPri)(4)}Mg{Zr-2(OPri)(9)}, and { Nb(OPri)(6)}Mg{Zr-2(OPri)(9)} respectively. Ah these derivatives have been characterized by elemental analyses, spectroscopic (IR and NMR) s tudies and ebullioscopic molecular weight determinations.
