Homoleptic isopropoxometallates of samarium(III) of the types [Sm-2{Zr
(OPri)(5)}(3)], [Sm{Zr-2(OPri)(9)}(3)], [Sm-2{Zr-3(OPri)(14)}(3)], and
[Sm{M(OPri)(6)}(3)] have been prepared respectively by the reactions
of SmCl3.3Pr(i)OH with K{Zr(OPri)(5)}, K{Zr-2(OPri)(9)}, K-2{Zr-3(OPri
)(14)} or K{M(OPri)(6)} (M=Nb or Ta) in desired molar ratios in benzen
e medium. Reactions of Sm{Nb(OPri)(6)}(3) with an excess of CH3OH or (
CH3)(3)COH under refluxing conditions produced [Sm{Nb(OMe)(6)}(3)] and
[Sm{Nb(OPri)(OBu(t))(5)}(3)] respectively. All these complexes have b
een characterized by elemental analyses, spectroscopic (IR and NMR) as
well as molecular weight (ebullioscopic) studies.
