This case report illustrates the clinical and histopathologic features
of lymphovascular permeation by a superficially invasive squamous cel
l carcinoma of the conjunctiva. Cytologic study of simple conjunctival
scrapings is a useful technique for confirming the clinical diagnosis
of this uncommon tumor. Regular follow up of patients, even after tot
al surgical excision of the tumoral mass, is necessary for early detec
tion of potential lymphatic spread.
