Abstract
Using the concepts of sensitivity, specificity, prevalence, and predic tive value, clinicians can manipulate published results to reflect the ir own practice characteristics. Additionally, receiver operating char acteristic curves can provide an indication of just how well a test mi ght perform. These techniques together can help the busy clinician to decide ''Just how good is this test, and how well will the result help decide how to treat a patient?''
