Poly[1-acrylamido-2(2-pyridyl)ethane] homopolymer (PAEPH) and polymer
complexes of 1-acrylamido-2 (2-pyridyl)ethane with a number of bi- and
tetravalent transition metals have been prepared and characterized us
ing spectral (H-1- and C-13-NMR, IR, UV-Vis) and thermal analysis, and
magnetic measurements. The important bands in the IR spectra and the
main H-1- and C-13-NMR signals are assigned and discussed in relation
to molecular structure. Considerable interest has also been focused on
the synthesis of the homopolymer and polymer complexes due to their p
otential application. Tentative structures for the complexes are propo
sed. Four types of Zr(TV) polymer complexes were prepared. In type [(A
)+(C)] (1:1' metal:ligand) the chelate rings are five-membered, wherea
s in type [(B)+(D)] (1:2) they are six-membered. The values of energy
of activation of degradation of the compounds were determined from TG
and DTA curves.
