Pericyclic reaction of cyclohexa-2,4-dienones 8a-c with cycohexa-1,3-d
iene 2b and cycloheptatriene 5 has been reported. cyclohexadienones re
act with 2b and 5 to give cycloadducts 9a-c,10a-c and 13a-c,15b,c resp
ectively. Cope rearrangement of the adducts 10a-c and 15b,c to 9a-c an
d 13b,c, respectively has been described. It has been shown that cyclo
hexa 2-4-dienones behave as 4 pi component (diene) and they react in a
primary inverse demand fashion via pi(4s) (dienone) + pi(2s) (diene/t
riene) mode.
