K. Takeda et M. Sugishita, WORD-LENGTH AND ERROR TYPES IN JAPANESE LEFT-SIDED NEGLECT DYSLEXIA, Clinical neurology and neurosurgery, 97(2), 1995, pp. 125-130
Seven patients who showed left-sided neglect in reading single words w
ere examined. Neglect errors typically involved omission of initial le
tters in our patients. Two patients with enough errors had a tendency
that longer words were more susceptible to errors than short words. Mo
st of the patients were less affected than the patients in the previou
s reports. Japanese people read strings of letters written not only fr
om left to right but also from right to left. The seven patients conti
nued to misread the letters on the left end when asked to read words f
rom right to left. The two patients showed a significant deficit in re
ading words from left to right compared to reading from right to left.
