Abstract
Genetic differentiation between two externally distinct forms of Oerst edia dorsalis was assessed by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD); one of these forms has been described as a separate species, Oerstedi a (Paroerstedia) nigrimaculata (Gibson, 1988). This study tested the h ypothesis that the two forms are part of the same, panmictic, populati on. We could not establish any genetic differences, consistent with ex ternal morphology, and we conclude that the two forms are conspecific. Hence we declare Oerstedia nigrimaculata as junior synonym of O. dors alis.
