J. Zakrzewski et C. Giannotti, PHOTOREDUCTION OF METALLOPHTHALOCYANINES AND PHTHALOCYANINE-SENSITIZED PHOTOREDUCTION OF METHYLVIOLOGEN IN THE PRESENCE OF AZAFERROCENE, Inorganica Chimica Acta, 232(1-2), 1995, pp. 63-68
Illumination with red fight (lambda > 600 nm) of magnesinm and alumini
um phthalocyanines, Mg(Pc-2) and Al(Pc-2)Cl, respectively, in dimethyl
formamide, and tetrasulfonatophthalocyanines ZnPcS(4) and AlPcS(4) in
water containing azaferrocene leads to effcient reduction of these mac
rocyclic complexes; with methylviologen (MV(2+)) formation of MV(+) is
observed. This process is catalytic with respect to the phthalocyanin
e, whereas azaferrocene acts as a sacrificial electron donor.
