Single nanocrystalline spinel phases have been formed in mechanically
alloyed CoFe2O4 and Co0.8Fe2.2O4 powders after heat treatment at tempe
ratures above 750 degrees C. High coercivities (2.6-2.7kOe) were assoc
iated with nanocrystalline structures in CoFe2O4. In Co0.8Fe2.2O4 a hi
gh remanence equal to 78% of the saturation magnetisation and a coerci
vity of 3.2kOe were obtained in magnetically annealed samples.
